The first picture book I’ve chosen is I Spy Mum by Janeen Brian. This was one of the books that came in my submission pack from New Frontier Publishing.
This is a gorgeous book, where a little boy looks at all sorts of mums to find the mum that is his. The pictures are beautiful and look like watercolours (I’m not an expert here) by illustrator Chantal Stewart, and the text has a great rhythm.
Today I read this to my boys, age 8 and 10, and they enjoyed it. My 2 year old nephew also enjoyed it when I read it to him a few weeks ago, looking at the pictures and talking about different sorts of mums and the activities they are doing.
This is a great start to 2013.
