Today’s book is one that I read when I was younger, that I just had to read for this challenge – Prince Cinders by Babette Cole.
Turning the Cinderella fairy tale around, it’s the prince who wishes to go to the ball. With a bumbling fairy and a spell that goes wrong, it’s jeans and not a slipper that is left behind with the princess. I’m sure I’m not spoiling the end by saying they all live happily ever after – the fate of Prince Cinders big, hairy brothers always make me giggle.
This is a fun story to share with your kids, especially if they know the original story. My kids recently learned about fractured fairy tales at school and enjoyed reading this book with me. I’m sure your kids will enjoy it too.
