Today’s book is another one I received from New Frontier Publishing called The Great Expedition by Peter Carnavas.
This is an adventure book, detailing a journey of some fearless explorers to deliver a parcel. Along the way they lose a number of their team, their map and they run out of water, but they eventually reach their destination.
The words and pictures are matched beautifully with the pictures revealing more about the story than the words say – the sign of a good picture book. It is also a lot of fun and gives parents and children a lot to find. My kids found the last picture incredibly funny, but I won’t give too much away.
At the end of the book, the author talks about the journey of Burke and Wills as they cross the continent of Australia. It encourages children to go to the library and do some more research to find out more about the story. It’s wonderful that a picture book is introducing children to Australian history and encouraging them to find out more.
